"What earlier generations held as sacred, remains sacred and great for us too,
and it cannot be all of a sudden entirely forbidden or even considered harmful.
It behooves all of us to preserve the riches which have developed in the
Church’s faith and prayer, and to give them their proper place."
-Pope Benedict XVI, Letter to Bishops, 7 July 2007

In his Apostolic Letter "Summorum Pontificum", Pope Benedict XVI expressed his wish that Masses celebrated according to the "Extraordinary Form" of the Roman Rite (the "Tridentine" Latin Mass) be made available wherever there is a stable group of the faithful who wish to worship God in this way. It is in this spirit that Bishop Sartain  established a Latin Mass Community for the Diocese of Joliet and  invited the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter  to provide priests for this  apostolate.
Fr Joseph R Valentine FSSP has been appointed as Chaplain of the community, and is based at Ss Peter & Paul parish in Naperville.
